Create your first care policy
Three ways to start a policy in HeroDocs: a blank document, a copy of one of our 150+ master templates, or a Word file you already have.
We're recording this one. The written walkthrough below covers every step.
What you will do
Start a policy three different ways, then organise your library so you can find it again.
Start from blank
Select Library in the sidebar, then Create at the top right.
Name the policy the way an inspector would search for it, for example Safeguarding Adults Policy.
Set the Doc Type. The type drives your filters later and helps HeroDocs match regulator alerts to the right policies.
Open Add details and tag the Regulators. Tag CQC here and any CQC alert we receive will check this document.
The editor opens on an empty page, ready for the AI assistant.
Copy a master policy
This is the fastest route and it suits most policies.
In the Library, open the Global Library tab.
Open any master policy. A banner reads: this is a global template, to make changes, make your own copy. The masters are read-only so nobody edits them by accident.
Select Make a copy. Your own editable version lands in My Documents.
Upload what you already have
In the Library, select Upload.
Drop in your existing Word file, give it a name and a Doc Type.
Your formatting survives the upload, because HeroDocs edits the real Word file rather than converting it to something else.
Keep the library tidy
Every row has a menu on the right with Preview, Edit, Make a Copy, Download, Archive, Send, Add to Folder and Add to calendar.
Add to calendar downloads a diary invite for the review date, so a policy does not quietly go stale.
Folders group related policies. Give a folder tags such as CQC or Safeguarding and the whole folder becomes searchable.
Archived retires a superseded policy without deleting the evidence that it existed.
Search covers name, ID and document type. Filters stack on top of the search, and Clear all resets them.
Next
Open your new policy and draft it with the AI assistant.
